Today’s voice and wish

May 5, 2008 · 1 Comment

Today I did not automatically have a wonderful quotation in mind. So I decided to randomly browse some quotations and I found something that really fits today.

Most men who are not married by the age of thirty-five are either homosexual or really smart.

Becky Rodenbeck.

Today is kind of a big day for me. I do not celebrate Cinco de Mayo. I don’t really care one way or the other (except, of course, for the margaritas). But Cinco de Mayo is a significant day in my life.

In 1989, for instance, my sister-in-law (my brother’s wife) gave birth to niece#3. That was pretty cool – I love my nieces and nephew and great nephew and dog nephews. And, sometime before 1973, a nice couple somewhere in Canada gave birth to the fellow that would someday become my BMF (that would be “best male friend” — I still always think that “BFF” means “best female friend” because that makes sense to me – I have a best female friend and a best male friend — doesn’t everybody). He’s over 35, he’s single, and he’s REALLY smart.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM OF CREM

(okay — I said he’s really smart, and he is, but would you believe that he and his mom share the same birthday and he’s been known to forget to call her on her birthday).

Music Monday meets bloody good idea

May 5, 2008 · 2 Comments

Today, music Monday meets a really good idea.

This week I got my license plate renewal sticker. YIPPEE WTF you say??

Well, I just discovered a “new” law in Illinois (effective since Jan 1, 2006 — so that tells you exactly how seldom we get mail from the Secretary of State, and how rare it is for us to read the inserts). Anyway – there is a new Organ/Tissue Donor Registry in Illinois, that makes a person’s wishes to be a donor legally binding. Family consent is no longer required. In other words, if

A new law, effective Jan. 1, 2006, created a new Organ/Tissue Donor Registry making a person’s wishes to be a donor legally binding. Additional witnesses or family consent is no longer required for donation to occur.

That’s right — if I haul off and kill myself while I’m driving down the road, and am DOA when I hit the ER, my license would be checked and I’ll have parts harvested, and they wouldn’t have to check with Spouse. MY body, MY choice.

Anyway, if you’re in Illinois, and if you’re like me and for whatever reason haven’t signed up for the new Organ/Tissue Donor Registry, click here now. You’ll need your Driver’s License number. Go ahead, I’ll wait . . . . .

Okay – now post a response (just so I feel like I did something useful today), and then tell your friends, and tell your neighbors, and tell your friend’s neighbors, and your neighbor’s friends. And then, enjoy the Fab Four
