You remind me of a man

1. Some relationships are meant to be difficult.
2. If’s Christmas Concert (at Daniel’s Den) is the last concert I saw; it was uplifting. (If (click here for info) is a local contemporary Christian group.
3. Spring should be Frickin’ here already. As I was leaving church last evening I was commenting to a friend of mine that the reason it’s called “Spring Break” in Illinois is so that you get a chance to leave town cause you gotta go somewhere ELSE to find spring.
4. Oh no! I forgot stack returns!
5. I’ve recently started knitting. (Well, last fall, I figure that’s recent)
6. Crem or KC rubbing my shoulders never fails to make me smile.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to dinner, tomorrow my plans include I haven’t planned tomorrow yet (maybe I’ll clean the kitched up so that …) and Sunday, I want to make a nice dinner for my family!

Timing is everything

March 25, 2008 · 4 Comments

My favoritest bookstore in the world is Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville, Illinois. I’ve mentioned this bookstore in my blog before in this post (and in a Christmas post — I love that free wrapping thing they got going).

Anyway — every now and the I check their website’s events calendar, to see who is coming to town and if there’s anything I want to do about it. For instance, this Saturday Mary Pope Osborne will be here. But as Chip is past his interest in the Magic Tree House books, and Princess isn’t yet there, I’m not going. However, the other day I noticed that someone was coming into town(to hawk his new book) and I was very excited so I ran over to the store and got my event tickets (plus an extra ticket). So for the opportunity to attend the event (and this is an event — it’s going to be at the high school auditorium) instead of paying $19 for the book (minus the 10% member discount) or getting the book from amazon OR getting the book FREE from the library, I go out and spend $28 for the ticket that is good for a presentation by the author, and one book signed (maybe more – depends on the author and the publisher). It’s $25 to admit two but since it’s a day when I’m busy I have to have Spouse take both Chip and the Princess.

Now, those of you that know my Spouse know that it’s not the last of the big spenders skinflint and I have yet to find an opportune moment to tell him about this book signing.

This morning, however, we had a meeting with one of Chip’s teachers. So while she was talking about how he’s got a really creative mind and how he excelled at the humor part of his writing, I managed to sneak in that I’d gotten tickets for him to go see Jack Prelutsky. Of course, she said (which I knew otherwise I wouldn’t have gone running off to spent $28 on the tickets) that it would be a wonderful opportunity for him and that he’d really love it.

And now, with the teacher’s (expert) blessings, I’ll have NO problem selling this off to Spouse.

MY MOTHER SAYS I’M SICKENING
By Jack Prelutsky

From THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK

My mother says I’m sickening,
my mother says I’m crude,
she says this when she sees me,
playing Ping-Pong with my food,
she doesn’t seem to like it
when I slurp my bowl of stew,
and now she’s got a list of things
she says I mustn’t do-
DO NOT CATAPULT THE CARROTS!
DO NOT JUGGLE GOBS OF FAT!
DO NOT DROP THE MASHED POTATOES
ON THE GERBIL OR THE CAT!
NEVER PUNCH THE PUMPKIN PUDDING!
NEVER TUNNEL THROUGH THE BREAD!
PUT NO PEAS INTO YOUR POCKET!
PLACE NO NOODLES ON YOUR HEAD!
DO NOT SQUEEZE THE STEAMED ZUCCHINI!
DO NOT MAKE THE MELON OOZE!
NEVER STUFF VANILLA YOGURT
IN YOUR LITTLE SISTER’S SHOES!
DRAW NO FACES IN THE KETCHUP!
MAKE NO LITTLE GRAVY POOLS!
I wish my mother wouldn’t make
so many useless rules.

Filling in Friday

March 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

How about that — I fill in the Friday before anyone else I know.
1. _____ is so exciting!
2. Strawberry fields forever. (what?? like there’s another answer to that)
3. Wisconsin beer cheese soup sounds like it would taste delicious! (It’s what the Jewish deli is offering for lunch)
4. Why does quiet make me feel so good?!
5. An aurora Borealis  is something I’ve always wanted to see.
6. It’s sad when Trader Joe’s stops carrying an item I really like.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to dinner with a friend, tomorrow my plans include work and Sunday, I want to sing (see below)!

What Flower
Are You?

What does this mean??

You have a sunny disposition and are normally one of the first to show up for the party. You don’t need too much attention from the host once you get there as you are more than capable of making yourself seen and heard.

Piday fill in

March 14, 2008 · 2 Comments

My pal mimi at The Family Blender does the Friday Fill in some weeks — I figure I might try too.

1. Contact may cause me to get confused (I’m easily distracted these days) .
2. The parties hereto do mutually agree to eat pie.
3. Disney parks expen$ive and great at marketing to kids.
4. Chocolate fondue sounds really good right about now!
5. I positively need more sleep over the next few days.
6. Home Improvement always makes me smile :-)
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to hopefully dinner with a friend, tomorrow my plans include see below and Sunday, I want to stay awake while driving!

See, cause my plans for Saturday are another entire list — and it might be a good idea to have it all in one place.

  1. Pack to leave town Sunday (making sure kids have dressy clothes, and my standard LBD is primed and ready to go)
  2. Drop dog at vet
  3. Go to chess tournament
  4. Go to dinner with my sister, her husband, possibly my niece, nephew-in-law, and GREAT nephew, and my family
  5. Get a good bunch of knitting done – because I’d like to finish a prayer shawl in time for the funeral on Monday (I *doubt* that it will happen — but it would be great if I could make it happen – luckily I can knit a lot at a chess tournament).

HAPPY PI DAY!!!

March 14, 2008 · 2 Comments

Did you know that today is Pi day?  What’s pi day you wonder?  Well, it’s March 14 — which means 3/14 or 3.14  (3.14159 …………………………………………………)

Some ideas to celebrate this festive occasion …

  1. Make and eat a tourtiere (French Canadian meat pie)
  2. Find a spinach pie (wonderful greek treat)
  3. Memorize pi to 100 digits (as if)
  4. Watch this video (I can’t be certain if they cried when irrationality was realized)
  5. Visit the Pi day website (would I kid you about a thing like that)
  6. Have some quiche
  7. And, if along the way someone asks you what you’d like for dessert, just remember this palindrome “I prefer pi
