Cause the picture is cute

February 28, 2008 · 2 Comments

First, let’s face facts. This picture from icanhascheezburger.com is cute. I always say kitteh make me LOL.  Second, after you look at the picture I’ll give you some thoughts for an upcoming holiday.

Humorous Pictures

See, every year about this time many people in the world celebrate Easter.  Easter is a bit like Christmas, where there’s two different versions — the “religious” version where we celebrate the resurrection of Christ, and the “generic” version where we celebrate important rights of spring like colored eggs, peeps, and chocolate bunnies (ramblingmom likes chocolate bunnies).

Last year, I wrote a little something about Easter and bunnies.  I like to think that I have a few new readers , and I also like to think that some things bear repeating.  So if you will allow me to repeat myself

THIS is a good example of an Easter Bunny (my daughter would love it)

THIS is another good example of an Easter Bunny

Personally, I prefer choice #2, as choice #1 will likely be eaten by the dog, and choice #2 will likely be eaten by Rambling-mom.

THIS is a house pet (I picked that because it looks just like my Tools). It could live for up to 10 years. As a former child (some people would disagree with the use of the word “former”) and as a mom, I can assure you that no matter how much the kids tell you “please, we promise we’ll take care of it,” they won’t. Three weeks before Easter, ask the owner at any pet store where they $ell rabbit$ what they think of giving someone baby bunnie$ for Ea$ter and they will $ing the joy$ of rabbit owner$hip. (And actually, if you check out the House Rabbit Society website you can find some wonderful things about owning a rabbit). Three – Four weeks AFTER Easter, ask the rescue workers at any animal shelter or Rabbit Rescue society what they think about live Easter Rabbits and they’ll tell you a different story. They’ll tell a story of abandonment and neglect.  (Same goes with chicks)

Now I’m not saying don’t go out and get a rabbit. I’m just saying think about it, are you in it for 10 weeks???? Or 10 YEARS. ME, I’m in it for 10 minutes – make mine chocolate.

OH — and since Crem doesn’t much like chocolate, and has no use for rabbits as pets, and since his dogs Fuzz(forbrains) and Bear would destroy a stuffed rabbit in less than 5 minutes I’ve included a picture of an Easter Bunny just for him. Yeah he wouldn’t mind finding that in a basket under the bushes.

Hints for movie meme

February 26, 2008 · 7 Comments

Here’s some (small) hints for the movie meme post none of these are very deep (hints) but possibly enough to jog some memories … in two days I’ll list all the rest of the answers

  1. Insanity runs in my family… It practically gallops. (see rule #6 — Squib knows but can’t say) just a pinch of cyanide
  2. Your golf ball, your running board, your car? Is there anything in the world that doesn’t belong to you? Said TO actor from #1
  3. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together – mass hysteria. Dr. Peter Venkman, Ghostbusters, tpgoddess
  4. Your choice is simple: join us and live in peace, or pursue your present course and face obliteration. We shall be waiting for your answer. The decision rests with you. selective power outage
  5. I can’t think about that right now. If I do, I’ll go crazy. I’ll think about that tomorrow. (see Rule #6 — Doc Thelma knows but can’t say) Scarlett O’Hara, Gone with the Wind, not surprisingly guessed correctly by Terann
  6. This? Why, I can make a hat or a brooch or a pterodactyl... Johnny Airplane, Doc Thelma

  10. If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Ferris, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, LSM. And NO if I had access to a car like that I would *NOT* take it back right away. I may be honest and forthright and honorable and all that — but I AIN’T no DANG fool.
  11. (And, I’m taking the opportunity to add two extra because — well I was pretty surprised when I realized I hadn’t put in a quote from these movies)

Here is the church, here is the steeple

February 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Remember that old finger game,

This is the church
This is the steeple
Open the door
See all the people.

I did the following things last night.

  1. Knitted for a while, with the knitting group
  2. Went to auditions and read the part of Martha in Arsenic and Old Lace
  3. More knitting (back at knitting group)
  4. Bought a dozen farm fresh eggs, and
  5. Recycled some used egg cartons

This was yesterday, during a heavy snowfall.  But no matter, there was only one flight of stairs involved.

Now, lots of people knit.  Lots of people go to theatrical auditions, and lots of people buy farm fresh eggs.  But I don’t think many people have “one stop shopping” for all of the above.

At my church there’s a prayer shawl ministry/knitting group (for instance, last night I was not knitting a prayer shawl — nor was I knitting any of the myriad of other things produced by my knitting group – like baby sweaters or things to sell at the craft fair — I was just knitting something for a friend that’s having a baby — but enjoying the camaraderie of  fellow knitters.

Our church also hosts a theater group – there are many members of our church involved in the theater group — but there are also quite a few other people from the community that are involved (and there are a number of people that started off with the theater group that are now involved in other areas in our congregation).   NOTE — I stated that I read the part of Martha I didn’t read for the part of Martha.  I just wandered up to see what was going on with auditions and since there was only one other female there that night — and since Abby and Martha are in EVERY scene, I was conveniently located to help out.  I made it very clear that I was not interested in being in the spring show I’m hoping to do lights (I can wear black, I can read scripts, and I can push buttons – I’m totally qualified).

It wasn’t until I got home (with the eggs, thankfully, UNscrambled, I’d taken a spill earlier last night on a slippery driveway and was hoping that I wouldn’t fall once I had the eggs) that I realized that not many people would do all those things the same night — much less in the same place.

Sometimes I think that spiritually I fall more in line with Unitarian Universalists or  a Unity church, but isn’t inertia a law??

I found this surprising

February 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I found this surprising AND rather appalling from the likely Republican presidential candidate.   This was sent to me by a friend (HI CREM) who is a member of the Sierra Club, he got the mail, but I found it on their website.  As a senator – it’s (now at least) obvious that you can choose to completely ignore things.  As president you have to take a stand.

McCain Scores a ZERO on the Environment

Arizona Senator Skipped Every Crucial Vote in 2007

Washington, D.C.–In the 2007 National Environmental Scorecard released today by the League of Conservation Voters, John McCain receives a score of ZERO. McCain was the only member of Congress to skip every single crucial environmental vote scored by the organization, posting a score lower than Members of Congress who were out for much of the year due to serious illnesses–and even lower than some who died during the term. By contrast, the average Member of Congress scored a 53 in 2007. McCain posts a lifetime score of only 24.

Statement of Carl Pope, Sierra Club Executive Director

“We were appalled two weeks ago when John McCain was the only Senator who chose to skip a crucial vote on the future of clean energy in America-dooming the measure to fail by just a single vote. As it turns out, this was merely the most recent example of a clear pattern of missing the most important votes on energy and the environment–as his abysmal LCV score clearly demonstrates.

“McCain missed votes to save his constituents $499 million dollars at the pump and at least $550 million on their energy bills, while creating more than 10,000 new clean energy jobs in his home state.

“Out of 535 Members of Congress, John McCain is the only one who chose to miss every single key environmental vote scored by the League of Conservation Voters last year. When it came time to stand up and vote for the environment, John McCain was nowhere to be found.

“Every other Member who received a zero from LCV last year at least had the temerity to show up and vote against the environment and clean energy time after time. And unlike John McCain, I doubt any of them would claim to be environmental leaders or champions on global warming.

“The votes chosen by LCV represent the most important votes on the most pressing environmental matters facing us today: energy, global warming, clean water, stewardship of our public lands, and other crucial issues. Republicans and Democrats alike in both chambers received perfect scores of 100 this year, proof that being green isn’t a question of red or blue.

“John McCain’s LCV score exposes the real record behind the rhetoric: a lifetime pattern of voting with polluters and special interests instead of consumers and the planet when it comes time to stand up and be counted. Or perhaps worse yet: a consistent refusal to stand up and be counted at all. We encourage people to contact John McCain and tell him it’s time to start showing up to vote when the environment is on the line.”

{head/desk} {head/desk} {head/desk}

February 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This symbol is the kanji symbol for balance. I think I need to study this symbol more, because I have none.

Today I was straightening out some file drawers. I have a two-drawer file next to my desk. I was taking things out of the top drawer and putting them in the bottom. You know what happens when you have a two drawer file, and you have two drawers open at once.

Yeah.

When we moved to a new office this fall, my mover (a/k/a Spouse) put some of the drawers in wrong (so they are not in alphabetical order). I was telling my spouse that he needs to come in and move the drawers around.

Cause if I’m in charge, I’ll be opening three drawers of a four drawer filing cabinet, and I’m sure it won’t be pretty.

Did I mention that not once but TWICE I tried to have both drawers open at once.

Xin Nian Kuai Le

It’s the end of the celebration of the Lunar New Year. I wanted to wish all the rats out there a very happy new year. (That means ll the August 96 kids)

My family recently attended the Sunny Ridge Family Center Chinese New Year celebration. They had a program (which, alas, I can’t find at the moment) which listed some of the attributes of the rat.

So I’m reading along with the program about the rat (my first born) and it said that the rat can accomplish a great deal of things in a short period of time (or something like that). To which I added an aside (that I think most of the august96 moms can relate to)

Which is a good thing — cause they tend to put things off until the last minute.

Back in the day — when I was pregnant with Chip, I gave him a nickname (many people nickname their fetuses — why I have no clue). At the time I could only think of two rats – Ben (which Michael Jackson sang a song about) and Templeton (from Charlotte’s Web). So I went with Templeton – he seemed a much more interesting character.
